French fries paper cup

French fries are deep-fried puffed foods, which contain a lot of fat and protein. In order to prevent the French fries from non-crispy and unflavored during storage and circulation, the packaging should have high barrier properties and good sealing properties. The commonly used packaging on the market is bagged and barreled, and paper cup packaging is gradually derived. Paper cup packaging is to seal the product by using the adhesive between the cover film and the edge of the cup body after heating, so as to achieve the sealing effect. At the same time, the paper cup itself has high barrier properties, which can effectively prevent the infiltration of oxygen and water vapor in the outside air.

The opening force of the French fries paper cup sealing cover film is also called the sealing strength or heat sealing strength. In order to ensure the sealing performance of the French fries paper cup, the French fries manufacturer can improve the heat sealing strength of the seal. If the sealing strength is too high, the sealing cover film will not be easy to open, which will directly affect the consumer experience; if the sealing strength is too small, damage and leakage are likely to occur during storage, transportation or sales, which will cause the French fries to no longer be edible and affect the product image. Therefore, French fries manufacturers should add effective monitoring of the opening force of the sealing film of the paper cup packaging.

Test methods and test equipment

Auto Tensile Tester LTS-05

At present, there is no corresponding standard for testing the opening force of the sealing film for paper cups in China. This article uses special equipment and fixtures to simulate the opening of the French fries paper cup lid film to test the opening force (or called the sealing strength). This test uses the LTS-05 intelligent electronic tensile testing machine independently developed by Link Testing to test the opening force of the sample.

Test principle: The sample is clamped between the two chucks of a special fixture, and the two chucks move relative to each other. The force value sensor located on the movable chuck and the built-in displacement sensor of the machine are used to collect the force during the test. Value change and displacement change, so as to calculate the performance indicators such as heat seal strength, tensile, deformation rate, and peel strength of the sample.

Test sample and test process

Test sample: The finished paper cup packaging provided by a French fries product factory.

Experimental procedure:

(1) Load the sample to be tested in the cup holder of the special opening device used in the paper cup, use a vacuum generator to vacuum the space between the fries paper cup and the cup holder, and use atmospheric pressure to fix the fries cup.

(2) Fix the opening part of the French fries paper cup sealing film on the upper clamp.

(3) Set the test parameters.

(4) Click the test start option to start the test, make the upper clamp rise at a constant speed of 300 mm/min, and tear off the sealing film.

(5) The device automatically records the maximum force value as the opening force, and the average value during the peeling process is the opening force of the seal, and reports the final test result.

Test results and analysis

   The opening force of the French fries paper cup is 35.356 kN/m, 31.478 kN/m, 38.189 kN/m, 33.357 kN/m, 40.475 kN/m.

LTS-05 intelligent electronic tensile testing machine is a professional testing equipment for testing the heat-sealing strength of French fries paper cups. It has the advantages of simple test operation, high degree of intelligence, accurate test results, and high test accuracy. LTS-05 Intelligent Electronic Tensile Testing Machine can not only be used for heat-sealing strength testing in the food industry, but also for testing the tensile performance, peeling, puncture force, pull-out force and other properties of packaging in the pharmaceutical and daily chemical industries. It is cost-effective.
