  • How to choose tear tester correctly?

A: There are 3 common tear methods:

  1. Plastic rectangular tear test method (Tensile is loadedon the standard specimen and make the sample torn in rectangular location to determine the tear strength of the sample.)
  2. Trouser tear method (Cut a seam to 1/2 of the sample in the axis direction to make the sample like the “trouser” shape. Tensile is loadedon the trouser sample and the tearing strength is measured in the axis direction.)
  3. Elmendorf tear method (The sample with prescribed cut is torn by pendulum and the tear strength is calculated based on the decreased energy caused by tearing.)

Lift the pendulum up to a certain height to give it an initial potential energy. The pendulum tears the specimen while swinging down. Computer calculates the decreased energy consumed by tearing to obtain the required force for tearing.

  • What’s the applications of the tearing test?

Bags may be torn by external force in the process of storage and transportation, so sufficient tear strength can reduce the tearing harms to avoid leakage. Besides, tear strength is one main performance index for packaging to be easy to open or not, which further determines the force when the consumer opens the packages.

  • The features of our LTLD-1000Z tearing tester?

Adjustable test range and electronic measurement make it possible to perform tests at various test conditions. Different from the traditional dash reading measurement, LTLD-1000Z is equipped with high precision angle sensor, electronic measurement, and high speed data collecting to ensure the accurate results.

Pneumatic specimen clamping, pendulum release mechanism and horizontal adjustment system effectively reduce the errors caused by human operation. (Pneumatic specimen clamping can avoid the uneven force distribution on sample edges and the sample slipping problem caused by manual specimen clamping, which can further improve the testing efficiency.)

Computer assisted horizontal adjustment system can avoid the system error caused by labor factors. As we all know horizontal adjustment is a very important factor for its operation. Computer assisted horizontal adjustment system could maintain the instrument optimum status to ensure the accurate results.

It is equipped with pendulums of multiple capacities to meet different demands. In order to guarantee the accuracy of the test, the standard requires that tearing force should be between 20% and 80% of the full scale. Our tear tester is equipped with a variety of ranges (200gf~6400gf) to ensure the accuracy of the test.

System provides automatic statistics of testing data and exports test results in different units, which is convenient for clients viewing.

  • How to choose the test range of pendulum? (Take the range of 2800gf as an example)

According to the requirement of accurate measurement, the tearing force should be between 20% ~ 80% of full scale.2800gf is 80% of 3500gf so the range needs to be greater than 3500 gf. We need to recommend the range 6400 gf, so configurations should be: 1600 gf basic pendulum+ 6400 gf extra weight/calibration weights. In addition, if the customer has the samples with less than 2800 gf, we need to advise him with a full range of weights, namely, the standard configuration + 400&800 extra and calibration weights+1600basic pendulum + 3200& 6400 extra and calibration weights. Air pressure: 0.6 Mpa. Sample clamping and pendulum releasing are both controlled by pneumatic, therefore, the tester needs gas source, but gas source is out of standard supply scope. In general, there should be gas source in the standard laboratory, but if there is no air supply, the customer needs to prepare gas source. Port size: If the port dimensions don’t meet air outlet, we will use the joint transformer of Φ 4 mm.
