Test method for pressure resistance of food packaging

Jul 30,2023

After food is packaged, in order to save space and facilitate transportation, it is generally stored and transported in the form of stacking, so that the finished food packaging below the stacking will be under the pressure brought by the upper food packaging. If the pressure resistance of the packaging is poor, it is easy to break the bag, so it is required that the packaging bag body and the sealing part should have high pressure resistance. Inflatable packaging is a common form of food packaging, which can protect the food inside the package from deformation, breakage, etc. For nitrogen-filled packaging, it can also keep the food in a low-oxygen environment, which can prevent food from oxidative deterioration and mildew. However, the gas filled in the packaging is a double-edged sword. While protecting the food, it will have a greater impact on the packaging bag when it is squeezed or impacted by an external force. The packaging bag is required to have a higher strength. Therefore, strengthening the test on the pressure resistance of inflatable packaging can effectively reduce the bag breakage rate during stacking and transportation.

The test process is based on the relevant regulations on pressure resistance of bags in GB/T 10004-2008 "Plastic Composite Films for Packaging, Dry Lamination of Bags, and Extrusion Lamination". The test instrument uses the KYJ-10K carton compression tester developed and produced by Link Testing Instruments Co.,Ltd.

Test application:

Carton crush test - used to measure the force value when corrugated boxes, honeycomb boxes and other samples are crushed

Carton stacking A test - used to measure the amount of deformation of the sample when it is stacked on corrugated boxes, honeycomb cartons and other samples

Carton stacking B test - used to measure whether the deformation of corrugated boxes, honeycomb boxes and other samples under a certain force value within a certain period of time is within the acceptable range

Test sample:

The test sample used in the test is a finished package of potato chips of a certain brand in the form of inflatable packaging.

Test procedure:

(1) Randomly select 5 well-packed finished product packaging samples.

(2) Set the test pressure, test speed, test time and other parameters.

(3) Take one of the samples and put it between the two test plates of the equipment, click the test option, the test starts, and after the test is over, the equipment displays the deformation of the sample.

(4) Place the other 4 samples in sequence between the two test plates for testing.

Test results:

The five samples tested in this test had deformations of 0.1 mm, 0.2 mm, 0.1 mm, 0.1 mm, and 0.3 mm after being held for 1 min under a pressure of 200 N. No air leakage or bag breakage occurred by visual inspection.

The KYJ-10K detects the deformation of a certain brand of potato chip packaging after being kept under a certain pressure for a certain period of time, and visually observes the leakage and bag breakage of the sample. The test process is simple, the equipment is easy to operate, and the test accuracy is high. To quantitatively test the sealing performance of the sample after pressure resistance, the sample after pressure resistance can be put into the LTY-01 sealing tester for testing.
