Laundry detergent is now more popular daily necessities, because of its mild and non-irritating, easy rinsing, little pollution to the environment and other advantages, is gradually replacing soap, washing powder, become the leading products in the clothing detergent market. Flexible plastic composite film bags are one of the main forms of packaging for laundry detergent, with materials such as PET/PA/PE and PET/PA/Al/PE. Compared with other products, the weight of laundry detergent in a unit package is usually larger, and in order to prevent bag breakage during circulation, the material used for packaging laundry detergent is required to have high impact resistance.

At present, the Chinese soft plastic packaging materials about the impact resistance of the test method method of free falling dart method, pendulum impact method, etc., of which the former is to break through the film with the weight of the falling dart to express the impact resistance of the material, the latter is to break through the film by the loss of energy to express the impact resistance of the material, in view of the packaging of laundry detergent is usually thicker, the impact resistance of the higher performance, the test used in the current test of free-falling dart method for the test.

Test Methods and Instruments

The test method is based on the standard GB/T 9639.1-2008 "Free falling dart method for plastic film and sheet impact resistance test method Part I: Step method", which is applicable to plastic films and sheets with a thickness of less than 1 mm. The test instrument is used to test the impact resistance of the samples with LTMC-A falling dart impact tester independently developed and produced by Link Testing instruments co.,ltd.

Test Principle: The basic principle of this test is to obtain the minimum weight of the falling dart to break the sample through a series of impact tests on the sample. The realization process is to fix the sample in the equipment fixture, release the falling dart, according to the damage of the sample (such as sample damage, the weight of the falling dart will be reduced Δm, if the sample is not broken, then the weight of the Δm), increase or less falling dart quality, then impact the sample again, and so on, repeat the impact test, when the completion of 20 samples of the test, the calculation of the number of broken samples N, if N is equal to 10, then the test is completed; if N is less than 10, then continue to supplement the sample for the test until N is less than 10. If N is equal to 10, then the test is completed; if N is less than 10, then continue to supplement the sample test until N is equal to 10; if N is greater than 10, it is still necessary to continue to supplement the sample test, so that the sample's unbreakable number is 10. Then the equipment automatically calculates and displays the sample's impact breakage quality according to the calculation formula in the standard.

Test Sample and Test Procedure

Test Sample: Plastic laminated film for packaging of a brand of laundry detergent.

Test procedure:

1. Cutting samples - cut at least 20 pieces of 18 cm × 18 cm samples from the surface of the sample of the laundry detergent packaging bag to be tested.

2. Adjustment of the instrument - open the instrument switch, select the test method (A method or B method), the test selected A method, the corresponding falling dart drop height adjustment of 0.66 ± 0.01 m, adjust the adjustable bracket of the equipment, so that the falling dart can fall after the impact of the center of the sample, choose the head diameter of 38 mm falling dart.

3. Clamping sample- take a piece of cut sample on the lower fixture, make sure the sample surface is flat, step on the foot switch, the device automatically clamp the sample.

4. Prediction test--Install a certain weight of falling dart and release it to determine the approximate impact breakage weight according to the damaged condition.

5. Test - Insert a falling dart of that mass vertically into the magnetic connector, click on the test option and the dart automatically drops the impact sample. Input the sample breakage situation into the equipment, then increase (decrease) the weight of the falling dart, repeat the clamping sample - installing the falling dart - test - record the sample breakage situation until the number of broken or unbroken samples reaches the required number of unknowns, the equipment automatically calculates and displays the mass of the impact breakage.

Test results and analysis

The impact breaking mass of the plastic composite film for laundry detergent packaging tested is 537.1 g.
